PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. -- Nearly a dozen Pulaski County Special School District schools have earned the designation of “certified” from AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). One additional school has been designated as “emerging schoolwide.”

Congratulations to Baker Elementary, Cato Elementary, Chenal Elementary, Crystal Hill Elementary, Oak Grove Elementary, Oakbrooke Elementary, Pine Forest Elementary, Sherwood Elementary, William Jefferson Clinton Elementary, Maumelle High, and Sylvan Hills High.

Meanwhile, Maumelle Middle joined Joe T. Robinson and Sylvan Hills Middle schools as emerging schoolwide. This means that these schools demonstrate significant progress toward AVID Schoolwide. The goal is to earn the AVID Schoolwide designation for all secondary schools. This means that a school demonstrates an AVID system that ensures college and career readiness for all AVID Elective students and improved academic performance for  non-AVID elective students.

“The hard work and dedication of our staff has been the driving force to improve teaching and learning in all of our schools,” said Assistant Superintendent for Equity and Pupil Services, Dr. Janice Warren. “We continue to provide opportunities for our students to become college and career ready when they exit PCSSD.”

These schools join College Station Elementary, Daisy Bates Elementary, Harris Elementary, Joe T. Robinson Elementary, Landmark Elementary, and Lawson Elementary achieved this designation in June.

AVID assesses schools annually using their AVID Coaching and Certification Instrument, which is structured around instruction, systems, leadership, and culture.
