NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Teachers at Crystal Hill Elementary are already getting their students thinking about college.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) was implemented across Pulaski County Special School District last year. AVID Elementary engages young learners and provides them with the critical skills to become confident, independent thinkers who have a thirst for learning. Teachers use AVID strategies to provide students with proven ways to succeed in school, note-taking and time management skills, and strategies to work together.
Crystal Hill Elementary Teachers at each grade level planned presentations about their own college/university experience and allowed students to ask questions. Students learned about career opportunities, campus life, and financial aid. Some teachers also created videos that were shared with other classes to provide students with different experiences.
